The Panzerkampfwagen IV formed the backbone of German armored forces during World War II. Between 1933 and 1945 it was produced in greater numbers than any other German main battle tank of the time. The H version, which was fitted with side skirts to increase armor protection for the first time, was built from 1943 to 1944.
